This particular visa of Australia is meant for
the skilled workers, who have been nominated by a state or territory
government agency in Australia to live and work in Australia
permanently. This too is a point tested visa and minimum 60 points are
required to be considered as applicant of this visa, based on age,
education, work experience, state nomination, etc. factors. Points of
state nomination are added in this visa category.
Subclass 189 Independent Skilled Visa:
- Step One: Skill Assessment
- Step Two: Expression Of Interest
- Step Three: DIBP Visa application
Subclass 190 State-sponsored Skilled Visa:
- Step One: Skill Assessment
- Step Two: Expression of Interest
- Step Three: State Sponsorship Application
- Step Four: DIBP Visa Application
- Another important difference between the two visas focuses upon the Skilled Occupation Lists.
The Skilled Occupations List (SOL) usually refers to the skilled list with occupations that can apply for a 189 visa
Skilled Regional (Provincial) Visa (Subclass 489):
The Skilled Regional (Provisional)-(Subclass
489) visa is a 4 year provisional visa which requires holders to live
and work in a regional area to obtain permanent residence. To qualify,
you will need to be sponsored by either a relative living in a
designated area or a State or Territory Government.
The 489 is only a Temporary visa, which requires you to live in
Regional Australia. Once you have done so for 2 years, and worked
full-time for 1 year (also in Regional Australia), you will have the
right to apply for the Skilled-Regional residence 887, which would
essentially be identical to the 190, in that it grants you permanent
residence, without any conditions
In other words, both visas can get you to
permanent residence. But the 190 gets you there directly, while the 489
will take you 2 years to get to the same place. So if you can apply for
either one, the 190 is the clear choice
